What do these words do?
I have a a fast car.
He gave a brilliant answer.
He had a great smile on his face.

The car handles beautifully.
He answered brilliantly to the question.
He is smiling greatly.

Adjectives and adverbs
adjectives (bijv. nmw.) say something about a thing/object/etc. 
The horrible shootings in America.   They are fantastic students.
The adjective is always in front of the thing/object/etc.

Adverbs (bijw.) say something about a VERB. They end in -ly.
Shootings WORK dramatically.  They ANSWER fantastically
Adjective after verbs: be, look, taste, feel, seem, smell, appear

Adverbs of frequency to tell how often/regularly something happens
- before VERB: Sometimes, Always, Never, Usually, Often, Hardly ever
We sometimes LISTEN to the teacher.

- after VERB: when main verb is TO BE
We ARE hardly ever quiet in class.
