Types of Conditional Clauses
Conditionals worden gebruikt om situaties te beschrijven die afhankelijk zijn van bepaalde voorwaarden.
There are four main types of conditional clauses: 
- zero conditional,
-  first conditional, 
- second conditional,  
- third conditional.

Slide 2 - Slide

Zero conditional
Gebruik: Om algemene waarheden of natuurwetten uit te drukken die altijd waar zijn als iets gebeurt.
Structuur: If + present simple, present simple.
Voorbeeld: 
  • If you heat ice, it melts. (Als je ijs verwarmt, smelt het.)
  • If you don’t eat, you get hungry. (Als je niet eet, krijg je honger.)

Schrijf minimaal drie zinnen(Engels) met de zero conditional over natuurwetten of algemene waarheden.

First conditional
Gebruik: Om een reële of mogelijke situatie in de toekomst uit te drukken.
Structuur: If + present simple, will + infinitief (zonder to).
Voorbeeld: 
  • If it rains tomorrow, we will stay home. (Als het morgen regent, blijven we thuis.)
  • If she finishes her homework, she will go out with her friends. (Als ze haar huiswerk afmaakt, gaat ze uit met haar vrienden.)
  • If we don’t hurry, we will miss the bus. (Als we niet opschieten, missen we de bus.)

Bedenk twee situaties die morgen kunnen gebeuren. Schrijf voor elke situatie een zin(Engels) met de first conditional.

Slide 6 - Mind map

second conditional
Gebruik: Om een hypothetische situatie van momenteel of toekomst en de mogelijke uitkomst uit te drukken. De situatie is onwaarschijnlijk of een fantasie.
Structuur: If + past simple, would + infinitief (zonder to).
Voorbeeld: 
  • If I won the lottery, I would travel the world. (Als ik de loterij won, zou ik de wereld rondreizen.)
  • If I were a millionaire, I would buy a mansion. (Als ik een miljonair was, zou ik een herenhuis kopen.

Verzin twee onwaarschijnlijke of fantasierijke situaties. Schrijf voor elke situatie een zin (Engels)met de second conditional.

Third conditional
Gebruik: Om over situaties in het verleden te spreken die niet gebeurd zijn en de hypothetische uitkomst van die situaties.
Structuur: If + past perfect, would have + past participle.
Voorbeeld: 
  • If I had known you were in town, I would have called you. (Als ik had geweten dat je in de stad was, had ik je gebeld.)
  • If they had left earlier, they would have caught the train. (Als ze eerder waren vertrokken, hadden ze de trein gehaald.)
  • If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam. (Als ik harder had gestudeerd, had ik het examen gehaald.)
