Bill: Going to school is a great place to meet new people and find out new things. It also engages us in various activities, as well as teaches us routine and good social skills. It creates opportunities to get involved in sports, clubs, all while taking classes. Still, with all the good parts of school, it does come with the bad ones.

What I hated most was when my alarm clock was ringing telling me it is time to go to school and I had a long hard day in front of me.

What is the best thing to do after a long day of school? Anything else besides homework, once you leave school to go home it is supposed to be your free time. Instead, teachers send more work home than was already assigned in class. It feels unnecessary after we have just done the same work during classes. It is especially hard for the students who are involved in some extracurricular activities or those having a job after school to balance both.

 

Mary: I am usually so bored in Mrs. Knolls class. What surprised me today was when she gave us a fun assignment. We were supposed to create a short skit about Greek mythology. I was at my happiest! I don’t get on edge performing in front of an audience like most people. No matter the role, I feel confident I will steal the show. I just hope the class like my performance and I will do my best to keep the audience pleased. Some may disagree with me, but motivation and feeling valued are critically important for us to build our self-confidence. Unfortunately, not all teachers in our school make us feel important, but I hope Mrs. Knolls will celebrate and appreciate my success.

 

Sarah: My high school has a big sense of community. The only way to survive my school was to get involved and not be scared to try something new. And everyone is so supportive and encouraging towards new students or people that are trying something new. No one really got bullied. It was a small school so everyone knew each other and no one really got into fights. Sure there were people that didn’t get along with each other but at least everyone has to try. It’s especially frustrating for students when they have to go to a class and interact with a person they are not completely fond of. I truly feel a school exists because of the people within the building. A building where everyone feels valued is a strong foundation for positive experiences and learning to take place.
