Slide 2 - Slide

Plan for today
  • Class rules
  • Explanation T2.1 Foodchains
  • Make exercises in your textbook
  • Make 'food web simulation' exercises

Slide 3 - Slide

Class rules
  1. When the teacher is speaking, be quiet
  2. When someone is asking or answering a question, be quiet and listen
  3. Work according to the traffic light color:                                                                        Red = quiet                        Orange = whispering                   Green = speaking
  4. Do not touch other people(’s stuff) without permission
  5. You treat each other with respect
  • If you do not follow the rules: max 1 warning --> 2.01

Learning goals
  • I understand and can read food chains
  • I can distinguish the different roles in a food chain (producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumer and quaternary consumer)
  • I understand the energy pyramid and understand why energy gets lost

Slide 5 - Slide

Key words
  • Organism
  • Photosynthesis
  • Joule (or calorie)
  • Foodchain
  • Energy flow
  • Producers
  • Primary consumer
  • Secondary consumer

Slide 7 - Video

Food chain
A food chain shows you who eats
whom in an easy way.

The energy flow is a way to show
where energy is transferred.
It is shown with arrows.

Slide 8 - Slide

Food chain
Producers are plants, because they
produce food with photosynthesis

Consumers are animals that eat other
organisms.

We use the words primary, secondary and
tertiary to describe if they are the first,
second or third consumer in the chain

Slide 9 - Slide

Food webs
A food web shows all feeding
relationships in an area.

Slide 10 - Slide

Food chains and food webs

Slide 11 - Slide

Energy pyramid
The energy pyramid shows that you
lose energy with every step in the food chain.

This is because:

Consumers don’t eat the entire organism
Organisms use up some of the energy
Organisms produce waste that has some energy.

Shows one possible path of energy flow
Organism that feeds on other organisms
Shows all feeding relationships in an area
Organism that uses photosynthesis

Slide 13 - Drag question

What is on top of the food chain?
A
Producer
B
Consumer
C
Decomposer
D
Scavanger

Slide 14 - Quiz

Read the book
Go to page 46 and 47 in your textbook

Read the pages alone in silence

Done? Start making the exercises of T2.1 (E1 - 11  P48-53)
