Globally reading a text
  • What is the subject?
  • Where does it take place?
  • When did it happen?
  • Why did the author write this text?

Slide 6 - Slide

Intensive reading
  • Only read a text intensively if the questions with the text need you to. Not everything is important to read! Sometimes you can already answer the questions without reading everything. Pay attention if the question points out a location of where you can find your answer.

Slide 7 - Slide

A few tips and tricks
Read the questions first, then start looking for that information.

You don't need to know the meaning of every word in the text.

Sometimes, you can find the meaning of a word in the context around it - read 1 or 2 sentences around the word you don't know and try to guess.

Slide 8 - Slide

Practise
Read the texts and answer the questions. Be prepared to explain your answers! Use a dictionary if you don't know a word!

When the light is red, you read in silence.
When the light is orange, you are allowed to whisper with your neighbour. When it is green, you are allowed to talk out loud.

Slide 9 - Slide

Practise

- Think about the following points for each text: what, where, when, why?
- Read questions beforehand.
- Skim first, then read globally.
- Be able to explain your answers, use a dictionary!
- Red = silent, orange = whispering, green = talking
Done? Do the extra task.
