Voor woorden van één lettergreep en  woorden van twee lettergrepen die eindigen op medeklinker + y gebruiken we -er en the ...... -est
My cat is lazy, yours is lazier, my friend's cat is the laziest. 
Norway is cold, Russia is colder, Antarctica is the coldest. 

Voor woorden van twee of meer lettergrepen (behalve die hierboven op y) gebruiken we more & the ...... most. 
This phone is expensive, that one is more expensive, the newest iPhone is the most expensive

  • Sommige woorden zijn uitzonderingen en hebben onregelmatige vormen:

  • good - better - best
  • bad - worse - worst

Bij vergelijken schrijf je than met een a! (then met een e gaat over tijd) 

Als je met more / most werkt verandert het bijvoeglijk naamwoord niet. 
Dus: hot / hotter 
Maar NIET more expensiver / the most expensivest
