Christopher Columbus was ordered by the Spanish king and queen to find a route westwards.
Columbus sailed across the Atlantic Ocean
in 1492.
He thought he had arrived in the Indies.
--> Indigenous inhabitants: Indians
But he reached a New World, later called America.
