Slide 3 - Open question

3 x 8
  • Let's make this easier ...
  • 2 x 8 =
  • 16
  • 1 x 8 = 8
  • 8 +16 = 24

Slide 4 - Slide

7 x 3
  • 7 x 2 = 14
  • 7 = 5 +2
  • Double 5 is 10
  • Double 2 is 4
  • So 7 x 2 = 14
  • 7 x 1 = 7
  • 14 + 7 = 21

Slide 6 - Open question

6 x 4
  • 6 x 2 = 12
  • Double 12
  • Double 10 is 20
  • Double 2 is 4
  • Double 12 is 24
  • or 6 x 5 = 30
  • 6 x 1 = 6
  • 30-6 = 24

Slide 7 - Slide

4 x 4
  • 4 x 2 = 8
  • Double 8 = 16
  • Or
  • 4 x 5 = 20
  • 4 x 1 = 4
  • 20 -4 = 16

Slide 13 - Slide

7 x 8
  • 7 x 8 is the same as 8 x 7
  • 8 x7 is the same as 8 x 5 + 8 x 2
  • 8 x 5 = 40
  • 8 x 2 = 16
  • 40 + 16 is 56
