Base rule

COMPARATIVE	SUPERLATIVE
adj + ER + than eg. smart er than	the adj + EST eg. the smartest

Exception 1

Short words with Consonant Vowel Consonant
(korte woorden met: medeklinker klinker medeklinker) 

double the consonant + ER/EST
(verdubbel de medeklinker +ER of +EST)

example: wet - wetter - wettest

Exception 2

Consonant+ y  

(medeklinker+y) 

=> y becomes i + ER/EST
(-y wordt i +ER / +EST)

eg. easy - easier - easiest

Exception 3

Words with 3 or more syllables
(woorden met 3 of meer lettergrepen)

=> more / most

eg. beautiful - more beautiful - the most beautiful
