Present Simple

Used for: habits, facts & things that always happen.

We form the present tense using the base form of the infinitive (without the TO).

Example:

I read a book every night.

SHIT-rule: in the third person we add '-S'.

I walk to school.
You walk to school.
He/she/it walks to school.
We walk to school.
They walk to school.

s-sound (-sh, -ss, -ch, -x, or -z) + -o --> verb + -es
My cat always washes itself well.
She goes to Spain every year.

consonant + -y --> + -ies
He flies to Spain each summer. 

vowel + -y --> + -s

To make a present simple question:
put the verb do in front of the sentence:

 I like ice cream.     -->      Do I like ice cream?

For he, she or it, you use does
Also, look at what happens with the +s of the original verb.

Bob plays football.   -->   Does Bob plays football?

WH-words: who, what, where, when, why, how.

Making WH-questions: WH-word + do/does + subject + verb (+ rest 
of the sentence).

Negations in Present Simple

To make a negation: add don't or doesn't between subject and verb

So not like this:
                                        I like not cookies. 

But like this:
                                       I don't like cookies

I don't like cats.

he/she/it --> add doesn't
John doesn't speaks Italian.

Again: the +s disappears after doesn't. The same happened with the questions!

is/am/are moves to the beginning of the sentence.
