DIRECT SPEECH
  1. "I like ice cream."

INDIRECT SPEECH
  1. He said that he liked ice cream.
  2. He said that he was living in Paris.
  3. She said she had bought a car. 
  4. She said she hadn't seen her teacher in a while.
  5. He said he had finished his work before the bell rang.
  6. They said they had been walking along the street.
  7. He said he would see me later.
  8. She said she was going to do her homework this afternoon.

In pairs, take a look at the exercise provided:

  1. Underline the verb(s) in each sentence.
  2. Decide which tense is applied in each 
sentence, for both direct and indirect speech.
Tip: Use p. 7 & 8 ;)

INDIRECT SPEECH (Present)


1. He said that he liked ice cream. = past simple

2. He said that he was living in Paris. = past continuous
