  • to talk about regular past actions that don't happen anymore.
Ms. Dangerfield used to play outside a lot as a child.
Ms. D would get annoyed at the slow internet of the late 90s.

  • to talk about past states that are no longer true - use USED TO with stative verbs: be, have, love...
Ms. D used to love annoying her brothers.
Ms. D used to be in the school choir.
use past simple for actions that only happened once!
Ms. Dangerfield and her brothers got a puppy one Christmas.
