Grammar goals

I can talk about past actions using used to & would. 

What did you use to do when you were 7 years old that you don't do anymore?

Used to & would + verb

• to talk about regular past actions that don't happen anymore.

Ms. Dangerfield used to play outside a lot as a child.

Ms. D would get annoyed at the slow internet of the late 90s.

• to talk about past states that are no longer true - use USED TO with stative verbs: be, have, love...

Ms. D used to love annoying her brothers.

Ms. D used to be in the school choir.

use past simple for actions that only happened once!

Ms. Dangerfield and her brothers got a puppy one Christmas.

Rewrite the sentence using 'would'. Can't use 'would'? -> use 'used to':
People SMOKED on the plane.

Rewrite the sentence using 'would'. Can't use 'would'? -> use 'used to':
Air travel WAS more expensive than now.

Rewrite the sentence using 'would'. Can't use 'would'? -> use 'used to':
People WORE their best clothes to travel by air.
