Come up with a top three of favourite holiday activities. Some examples: going to the beach - buying ice-cream - swimming. You can also think of activities yourself...

What is the difference between 'quik' and 'quickly' in these two sentences?

1. The thief quickly hid in the wardrobe when he heard the police cars.
2. The quick athlete won a golden medal at the Olympic Games.

Bijv. naamwoorden.

Dit zijn woorden die je voor zelfstandige naamwoorden zet (de/het/een woorden): 

*die woorden geven aan over wat voor soort dieren, dingen, personen we het hebben.

The beautiful building was built in 1988.      (beautiful = mooi) 

The ugly building was demolished in 1998. (ugly = lelijk)

The quick athlete won a silver medal.    (quick = snelle) (silver = zilveren)

The slow turtle tricked the fast rabbit.   (slow = langzaam) (fast = snel)

Bijwoorden

Dit zijn woorden die wat zeggen over een werkwoord (hoe je/iemand iets doet) 

Je plakt dan achter het woord een -ly. 

                             ww    +  hoe 

The couple danced beautifully at the prom. (danste mooi) 

The cowboy quickly fired his gun. (vuurde snel)

The man immediately stood up. (stond onmiddelijk op) 

Wanneer gebruik je welke vorm? 

Als het woord dat je moet invullen voor een  zelfstandig naamwoord komt, dan vul je het bijvoegelijk naamwoord in. Dat eindigt niet op een -ly. Je kunt antwoord geven op de vraag: Wat voor soort dier, mens, gebouw, activiteit? 

Voorbeeldje: 

                                 zelfst. naamw. (het dier) 

1. The _________ animal couldn't reach the tree top in time. (slow/slowly)

2. The slow animal couldn't reach the tree top in time. 

(wat voor soort dier? => een langzaam dier) 

Wanneer vul je welke in? (2)

Als het woord bij een werkwoord in de buurt staat, dan vul je het bijwoord in. Dat eindigt op een -ly.

*Je kunt antwoord geven op de vraag: 'Hoe deed de persoon / dier het?)

1. The turtle ________ ate the carrot. (slow/slowly)

2. The turtle slowly ate the carrot. 

(hoe at de schildpad de wortel? -> langzaam) 

The man ________ ran behind the bus because the bus was leaving.
ran = rende

2. quickly

The _______ dog didn't want to sleep. It wanted to play fetch.

1. energetic
2. energetically

My grandmother ________ (1. slow) grabbed a biscuit for my little cousin. She takes her time to do things. She's a rather _____(2. slow) person.

(Gebruik de woorden tussen haakjes.) Zet er -ly achter als het wat zegt over hoe iets gebeurde..

Last summer, we were at a campsite in France when we ______(1. sudden) heard an explosion. Apparently, someone was barbecuing and the gas tank had exploded.
My friend and I _________(2. immediate) ran to the place from where we heard the explosions. We saw the _____________ (3. brave) firefighters who were extinguishing out the fire. One of the firefighters also ____________(4. brave) jumped into the caravan that was engulfed in flames and saved a little girl.
