What does being 'independent' mean? 
Being independent means having the confidence and skills to do things by yourself. 

When you are older, you will have developed some more independence, this will look different for everyone - it might be living with friends or living with family and doing some things independently.

As you grow up, it's important to develop independence and responsibility so you can better look after yourself and feel proud and happy for what you have achieved. This might be something like getting a job or something like living more independently.

Learning to do new things and becoming more independent can be frustrating and difficult. 

But if we break things down into smaller, easier steps it really helps. Let's look at an example of this for a house responsibility... making a cup of tea!
