Slide 13 - Video

 world trade shifted
  • a lot of production work has been relocated to Asia since the 1970s. There are two main reasons for this:
  1. The wages in these countries are lower, therefore production prices are lower, profits larger (low wage country)
  2. Due to the increasing purchasing power these countries form an interesting market.

please note!

Slide 14 - Slide

Effects for the world system
  • More and more often semi-periphery countries take over services from core countries.
  • when wages in country Y rise due to economic development, production shifts to another country.
  • therefore the worldsystem is not set, but changes.

Slide 15 - Slide

More and more worldtrade

  • production chain is divided
  • production work is done wherever it is cheapest
