Times Tables Adventure: Fun with Addition and Subtraction

What do you already know about multiplying, adding, and subtracting numbers?

Learning Goal

At the end of the lesson, you will be able to multiply, add, and subtract numbers using times tables, and solve puzzles and challenges in a more fun and interactive way.

What Are Times Tables?

Times tables help us multiply numbers quickly. You use them to solve problems faster and spot patterns in maths.

Adding and Subtracting with Times Tables

You can use multiplication to add and subtract groups of numbers. For example: If you know 3 x 4=12, you can also quickly solve 12 + 4 or 12 - 4.

How to Use Times Tables in Solving

If 4 x 5 = 20, then 20 + 5 = 25. You can build up answers!

Subtraction Example

Addition Example

If 8 x 3 = 24, then 24 - 3 = 21. Use your tables backwards to find the answer.

Let’s Play: Times Table Bingo!

Get a bingo card with multiplication sums. Solve them and cross off your answers. Who can get five in a row first?

Challenge: Mystery Number

A number is made by 6 x 4. If you subtract 6, what do you get? Let’s solve it together and find the answer!
