When?
You use the Present Perfect when an action in the past can still be felt in the present.
How?
With the verb have/has and a  verb + ed

Special rules?
Irregular verbs get their own form in the present perfect

4 catagories
Ability
Can/be able to. You use can and be able to for abilities; things you can do

I can hold my breath for three minutes.
I am able to do a backflip.
Obligation
Have/Has to. You use these for obligation, you absolutely HAVE TO do it.

I have to do my homework or my teacher will get mad.
She has to pay me back before tomorrow.


Advice
Should, Must. You use these for giving advice.

(regular advice uses should:)
You should eat two pieces of fruit every day.

(strong advice uses must:)
We must make haste or we'll be late.

Options
Could. This one is used when there are multiple options. 

You could take the left road or the right one.

I could listen to you right now, but I just don't want to.
