Answer the question
I will explain the nervous system to you.

During this explanation you have to answers the next three questions. Write the questions down on your form.
  1. What are the main parts of the nervous system
  2.  How can you divide the central nervous system.
  3. Write down the names of the labelled parts of the brain.

The nervous system
what does it do?
what are the parts of the nervous system?

  • Without it, sense organs and sensory receptors are useless
  • sends nerve impulses from and to the brain

Slide 6 - Slide

The nervous system
The nervous system is made up of:
  • the central nervous system
              --> Brain + spinal cord

  • the nerves.
the nerves connect the central nervous system to all parts of the body.

Slide 7 - Slide

The central nervous system

is divided into two major parts:

  • the brain and
  • the spinal cord.
The Peripheral nervous system

all the other parts

  • nerves in the rest of your body

Slide 8 - Slide

FUNCTION
Central nervous system

  1. receives nerve impulses from the sensory receptors
  2. sense!!!
  3. response: sends nerve impulses to muscles + glands
FUNCTION
Peripheral nervous system

1. sends nerve impulses to the spinal cord
2. send nerve impulses to muscles + glands

peripheral vs central

Slide 10 - Slide

THE BRAIN
  •  impulses are interpreted
  • 100 billion neurons
  • become aware
  • think about your responses.
  • is divided into three major parts.

Slide 11 - Slide

3 PARTS OF THE BRAIN:
CEREBRUM: Thinking  , the largest part of the brain.  impulses from different sensory receptors are interpreted , memories

CEREBELLUM: coordinates your movements + balance.

BRAIN STEM:  connects the brain+ spinal cord, controls : breathing, blood pressure and your heartbeat.

Slide 12 - Slide

SPINAL CORD
connects the brain -  peripheral nervous system.

located within the bones of the backbone (or spine)

to protect it.
