How to write a formal letter? 
  1. Layout:  Your adress in the top-right corner. Their adress on the left. 
  2. Who are you writing to? 
        Do you know the person?  Dear (name)
        Don't know the person?     Dear Sir/Madam
   3. The beginning:
        State why you are writing.

4.   The tone: 
       Avoid chatty language, but stay friendly. 
       Avoid contractions (I'm, don't, can't, I've).
5.   Paragraphs:
       First:       introduction            Third: main point 
       Second: main point               Last:   conclusion

6.   Closing statement: 
       Restate the main point of your letter. 
       Provide an action for the reader (e.g. I look forward to          
       hearing from you).
7.   Ending your letter:
      Do you know the person? Yours sincerely, ...
