They request that protestants are treated more benevolently.

The Iconoclastic Outbreak
Because of the edict of Blood the protestants are forced into organizing gatheringsin the open air, where a preacher talks to the people. --> hagenpreek.
These meetings leads to groups of Calvinists attacking churches and monasteries in 1566. --> the Iconoclastic outbreak.

Alba & The Netherlands
Philip II is furious when he hears about the outbreak.
He sends the duke of Alba, to the Netherlands to sort it out.
Alba is set three goals:
To punish the perpetrators.
To make sure every person in the Dutch provinces is a Catholic.
To appoint a central government.

Alba takes over as viceroy from Margaret.
Many noblemen flee for Alba to other countries.
Alba establishes as well the Tenth Coin.
Each Dutch citizen is ordered to pay extra taxes of 10% on products sold.
