Introduction to Heated Rollers

& Hair up

Word of the Week - Hygroscopic

A

The size of each individual strand of hair.

B

Hair naturally absorbs and releases moisture (water vapor) from the surrounding air.

C

D

Hygroscopic

  • Hair is made mostly of a protein called keratin. The cortex contains amino acids that easily attract and hold water.

  • When the air is humid, your hair absorbs moisture, swells, and alters its shape.

  • Water molecules break and reform temporary hydrogen bonds inside the hair strand. This is why straight hair can turn wavy, or curly hair can become frizzy when you step into humidity.

Aim - Complete a heated roller set followed by two hair up looks

Lesson Objectives:

  • Recall the difference between on base and off base.

  • Recall the placement for a brick wind set and the effect this will give.

  • Be aware of the health and safety limitations when using heated rollers.

  • Introduction into styling techniques used to create a hair up look.

  • Produce a minimum of 2 hair up looks, using the QR codes provided.

What is the difference between on & off base setting?

On base

  • Using a 90° when placing rollers in the hair.

  • Used to create volume at the root.

Off Base

  • Using a 45 ° angle when placing rollers in the hair.

  • Gives less root movement and less volume.
