The present simple is used to describe something that happens regularly or to  say that somehing is a fact

She uses lamps to see in the dark.

Slide 4 - Slide

Positive
When the sentence is positive, you use the infinitive of the verb. With the infintive, we mean the verb without certain endings(uitgangen) and auxiliairy verbs(hulpwerkwoorden)
They play on their phones before they go to bed.
I smile a lot on sunny days.

The only exceptions are the pronouns he, she and it(hij, zij en het). After these pronouns come the infinititive +s
He works five days every week.
It snows a lot in Canada during the winter.

Like + -ing
We use like + -ing in a sentence to say what you think about an activity. Verbs you see often in these sentences are: (don't) like, love ,enjoy and hate

After these verbs comes the -ing form, which basically means that you put -ing after the infintive.
He enjoys reading a good book.
We hate dancing in a disco.
I (don't) like listening to rock music.

Slide 33 - Slide

Some exceptions
When there is an -e in the infinitive, you don’t see it back in the -ing form
We hate writing(write) essays. Why do they have to be so long?

When the infinitive ends with vowel(klinker)+consonant(medeklinker), we add the same consonant once more before -ing
He enjoys running(run), because he stays fit.
