The USA started as 13 British colonies

• The native americans were pushed out of those areas (if they had not yet died)

• In 1776 they declared independence because they believed themselves free citizens

From that point onwards: the USA become a haven for all people who wanted to be free:

• The statue of liberty has a poem with the following sentence: ''Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free''

There are so many minorities in the USA, everyone needs their freedom:

• The largest religious group is protestants, with 33%
• Race equality has been more of an issue, with a majority being white
• Important: the government should get involved as little as possible in the lives of their people --> also economically
