Hearing a sound

Sound is produced

The ear (pinna) 'catches' the sound stimulus and makes it go into your ear canal

The sound stimulus makes the eardrum vibrate.<div>This in turn makes the hammer, anvil and stirrup vibrate.</div><div>Finally the vibration goes into the cochlea.</div>

Inside the cochlea, sensory receptors turn the stimulus into impulses, which they send through the autitory nerve.<div><br></div>

The auditary nerve sends the impulses towards the brain<div><br></div>

The brain recognizes the impulses. At this point you become aware of the sound.<div><br></div><div>Because there are two ears, the brain can use impulses from both to tell where sound is coming from.</div><div><div><br></div></div>

The sense of balance

The semicircular canals work like a level     . 

Fluids inside them move and allow you to notice movement, acceleration and position.

A level is a tool used by many people to tell if the thing they are making is straight
