New Year's resolutions

We know what they are, but what does it mean really.

We've heard what New Year's resolutions
mean to these people, but what do they
mean to you?

Words to talk about the future

What is the difference between the following sentences:

• This year I am going to focus on my goals.
• This year I will focus on my goals.
• This year I would like to focus on my goals.
• This year I might focus on my goals.
• This year I could focus on my goals.

Am going to -> gaat zeker weten gebeuren, is bewijs voor.

Will -> belofte, spreker wil dit echt doen

Would like to -> zou graag willen, niet helemaal zeker dat het gaat gebeuren

Might -> misschien, kan gebeuren maar kan ook niet

Could -> optie, nog niet zeker of deze optie ook echt gekozen gaat worden

Exercise

• Think of at least 4 resolutions you want to make this year. Remember, a resolution can be anything as long as it is something positive for you. 
• Write yourself a letter. In that letter, talk a little bit about how 2023 was for you.
• Then, tell yourself about the resolutions you have for 2024 and why.'
• Save the document on your computer.
• Set a reminder for yourself to read the letter at the end of 2024.
• Done? Come pick up a worksheet.

• Form pairs.

• Person A gets 6 minutes to ask person B all 10 questions. Person B answers.

• After that, person A and B switch roles, and person B asks the questions.
