Adjectives-  Bijvoegelijke naamwoorden

- Zeggen iets over een zelfstandig naamwoord:
the careful driver, the tall building

- Soms twee vormen:
This job is boring / interesting / tiring / annoying (= over ding)
   I am bored / interested / tired / annoyed (= over persoon)

Adverbs- Bijwoorden
- Zeggen iets over werkwoorden, bijvoegelijke naamwoorden
en andere bijwoorden (alles behalve zelfstandige naamwoorden)
> she drove carefully, it rained heavily,
> surprisingly easy
> incredibly quickly

- Adverbs maak je door -ly achter het bijvoeglijk naamwoord te
zetten  (quick > quickly, careful > carefully)

Slide 8 - Slide

How to make an adverb•
  • adjective + ly > beautiful beautifully
  • y becomes ily > easy – easily
  • le becomes ly > horrible – horribly
  • ic becomes ally > basic – basically

Slide 9 - Slide

Uitzonderingen
- Je gebruikt ook adjectives i.p.v. adverbs bij werkwoorden  zoals be / feel / look / taste / sound / smell / seem
   > I am tired, she is hungry, you look tired, you smell nice

- Een aantal adverbs maak je niet met -ly; je gebruikt vaak gewoon de adjective
good > well            the good dog,                   you did well
fast > fast               the fast car,                        he ran fast
hard > hard            the hard test,                     he tried hard                                   ('hardly' =  nauwelijks...he hardly tried)
early > early         the early train                   he arrived early
high > high           the high shelf                   the papers were piled high
late > late              the late movie                  he was late                                        (lately = de laatste tijd ...he felt sad lately)
long > long           a long time                        He hadn't been waiting long
