Horizontal composition

  • Viewing direction  from left to right, or the other way around. 
  • Elements are placed horizontally.

Vertical composition

  • Viewing direction is from top to bottom or bottom to top  VV
  • Elements are placed vertically .

Diagonal composition

  • Viewing direction is from top left to bottom right.  VV
  • Elements are placed diagonal.

Central composition

  • The most important subject is placed in the centre.
  • It leads your attention to the middle.

  • The focus is nowhere specific.
  • Elements are spread out over the surface.

  • Both sides are (almost) the same.
  • Focus goes to the middle, from there you look from left to right and VV.

Assignment
  • Cut out 10 images of the same subject. For example 10 cars, 10 bottles or 10 person.  Cut them out carefully.  So no square shaped images! 
  • Write down the 7  compositions  and cut those words out. You can do that in a creative way. 
  • Lay down on a white background the 7 different compositions with the 10 cut-out shapes (do not stick them on) With every composition you put the right word and take a picture of it with your phone. Make sure you can see which composition it is!
  • When you have them all place them in your portfolio; share your portfolio with your teacher.

Pay attention
  • Make sure you have 10 pictures within the same theme, they can all be different in size.
  • Make sure you cut out the pictures neatly and that these are not square shaped. 
  • Write the correct words for the different compositions. Cut them out neatly. 
  • Take good photo's with only your work on it and see to it that the photo has enough light and no shadow. The photo has to be sharp.
  • You can hand in your work in your portfolio
