What are rules and why do we have them?

We have rules at school and at home to keep us safe, to make sure everyone is treated fairly and to help us learn right from wrong.

Who can tell me some of our school rules ?

We are always ready to learn

We always listen to adults in school

We are always kind with our hands, feet and voices

We always respect each other and property

We always follow instructions

We always tell the truth

What do you think school would be like if we didn’t have rules?

Do you think these people have the same rules as us?

They may not have some of the same rules as you for example their bedtime may be later yours, but they definatly have the same laws as us.

Laws are big important rules made by parliament that help us to live together peacefully and keep us safe.

The rule of law means that no one is above the law, celebrities, government, police officers,  teachers - everybody! We all must follow the same laws.

Rules - are made by your parents or school that will help to follow the law and know right from wrong when you are older.

Some parents may have different rules and some schools may have different rules they can vary.

Laws that you follow already, or are here to protect you.

In England, children and young people have a legal right to education, meaning you must be in education, training, or employment until you are 18.

when a pedestrian steps onto a zebra crossing, road traffic must give way.

Can not have a job or be employed until you are 13.

In the UK, children must use an appropriate child car seat until they are 12 years old or 135cm (4ft 5in) tall, whichever comes first.

You can start to learn to drive when you are 17.
