Past Simple: wanneer?
Wordt gebruikt als iets in het verleden heeft plaats gevonden en is afgerond, het is echt voorbij. Vaak staat in de zin een tijdsbepaling die aangeeft dat het verleden tijd is

I went to Spain last year.
Yesterday I fell off my bike.

bevestigend: ww  + ed (of 2e vorm)
He went to school this morning.
We talked to the teacher last week.
Vragend: did vooraan in de zin en het ww in de tegenwoordige tijd
Did he go to school this morning?
Did you talk to the teacher last week?
Ontkennend: Didn't voor het ww en het ww in de tegenwoordige tijd
He didn't go to school this morning.
We didn't talk to the teachers last week.

Present Perfect: wanneer?
Wordt gebruikt als
- iemand met iets in het verleden begonnen is en nog steeds doet 
- als iets in het verleden begonnen is en nog aan de gang is
- als het niet belangrijk is wanneer iets gebeurd is, maar iemand heeft iets gedaan of er is iets gebeurd waarvan de resultaten nog merkbaar zijn.
- Uitspraken over iemand tot nu toe.
I have never written a book.
We have lived here since 1999.

bevestigend: have/has (he/she/it) + ww + ed (of 3e vorm)
He can't play football, he has sprained his ankle. 
We have lived here since 2018.
Vragend: have/has vooraan in de zin + ww + ed of 3e vorm 
Has he sprained his ankle?
Have you lived here since 2018?
Ontkennend: have/has + not (n't) + ww + ed of 3e vorm. 
He hasn't sprained his ankle.
We haven't lived here since 2018.
