The STAR technique is a method used to answer behavioral interview questions by outlining the following:


Situation


Task


Action


Result

Situation

Situation refers to the background of the story you are sharing in response to an interview question.




Think of a situation in work or College when you were required to make a decision or take action.

Task

Task involves describing the specific goal or objective that needed to be achieved in the given situation.




What did you have to actually do in the situation? What was the task?

Action

Action explains the steps you took to address the situation and accomplish the task.




What steps did you go through to accomplish the task?

Result

Result outlines the outcomes of your actions and the impact of your efforts in the given situation.




What was the result? Anything measureable?

What are some ways you can learn to deal with nerves?

What are some good questions to ask in an interview?

What questions should you avoid asking?
