Revising the Past Simple
Why? To talk about things that happened in the past and are now finished.
How? 
Regular verbs: adding -(e)d         The dog jumped in the pool.
to the base form of the verb        She changed busses.      

Irregular verbs: the past simple form > learn by heart!

If the verb ends in -e, you would just add a -d.  
> look is looked
> ignite is ignited.

end in -y, the -y changes to an –i if it follows a consonant (klinker a,e,o,i,u)
> cry becomes cried 
> but the verb play becomes played.

when there's a form of not, or when the sentence denies something = negative
The Past Simple - negative form
Why? To deny things that happened in the past.
How? add "did not" (didn't) before the base form of the verb     
Normal sentence:                         Negative sentence:
The dog jumped in the pool. > The dog did not jump in the pool.
She changed busses.               > She didn't change busses.
More examples...
He walked the dog yesterday.      > He...
She stayed up really late.               > She...
They went to school.                       > They...

Past simple negative = to deny something. Did not + verb
