The start of the war 
  • Germany invades NL on May 10th 1940 
  • Rotterdam bombed by Germany 
  • Royal family flees to England 
  • Anti-Jewish measures implemented

During the war 
  • In 1941 the first deportations took place 
  • In 1942 Jews are required to wear a yellow star of David 
  • The Dutch transit camp Wetserbork is in use from 1941 on
  • Arbeiteinsatz: every man between 18-45 could be called upon to work in Germany

  • Collaborators and NSB members are arrested and interned 
  • Women who are suspected of having had relatiosn with Germans are ridiculed and often their hair shaven off

  • 198.800 deaths:
  • 88.900 civilian deaths 
  • 63.000 military deaths 
  • 102.000 Jewish deaths
