Warm-up: Feeling Included
Quick-write: What helps you feel included at school? Think about times you felt you belonged and what made it happen.
Understanding Inclusion and Exclusion
Inclusion means everyone is welcomed, respected and treated fairly.
Exclusion means leaving people out on purpose or making them feel unwelcome.

Scenario 3: Ignored During Recess
Situation: A student is trying to start a game during recess,
but others ignore them or say “No.”
Inclusion Prompt: How can you change the situation so the student can participate? Could you suggest a compromise
or new game?
Scenario 1: Left Out of a Game
Situation: Two students are playing soccer and a third student is standing alone, not asked to join.
Inclusion Prompt: How could you invite them to join? What could you say or do to make them feel included?
Scenario 2: Group Work Exclusion
Situation: During a classroom project, one student keeps getting ignored and no one asks for their ideas.
Inclusion Prompt: How could the group ensure everyone’s ideas are heard? What could each student do?
Scenario 4: Teasing for Differences
Situation: A student is teased because they like different games, toys, or activities than the majority.
Inclusion Prompt: How can classmates respond respectfully and make the student feel welcome?
Scenario 5: Excluded from Partner Work
Situation: Teacher asks students to pair up for an activity, and some students pick their friends first, leaving one student without a partner.
Inclusion Prompt: What strategies could the student use? How could the group rearrange to include everyone?
Scenario 6: Not Invited to Birthday/Group Event
Situation: A student is not invited to a small group event or celebration during school (e.g., drawing club, craft table).
Inclusion Prompt: How could the group make sure everyone feels welcome? How could the student feel included even if space is limited?
Class Inclusion Agreement
As a class, let’s come up with a list of actions and rules to make sure everyone feels included. What positive behaviours should be on our agreement?

Think of one thing you can do today to help someone feel included. How will you show respect and make sure everyone belongs?
