Learning Objectives

At the end of the lesson you will review the passé composé, practise with regular and irregular verbs, learn body part vocabulary, and describe being sick using avoir mal à.

Quick Review: Passé Composé

Formed with an auxiliary verb (avoir or être) + past participle. Regular -er: parlé, -ir: fini, -re: vendu.

Auxiliaries: avoir & être

Avoir (to have)

Some verbs use être (mainly movement verbs). Example: Je suis allé(e).

Être (to be)

Most verbs use avoir. Example: J’ai parlé.

Regular Verb Examples

parler → parlé, finir → fini, vendre → vendu. J’ai parlé. Tu as fini. Il a vendu.

Irregular Verb Examples

avoir → eu, être → été, faire → fait, pouvoir → pu, vouloir → voulu, boire → bu.
