Y9: Graphs Revision
Slide 1 - Slide
We like to display data using graphs because it is easier to see
patterns
on a graph.
We need to be able to describe the patterns that we see.
Slide 2 - Slide
In this graph we can see that the general pattern in that the graph gets higher.
In science, instead of saying 'gets higher' we would say '
increases
'.
Slide 3 - Slide
In this graph we can see that the general pattern in that the graph gets lower.
In science, instead of saying 'gets lower' we would say '
decreases
'.

Slide 9 - Quiz
When we are asked to describe a trend, we need to give information about both variables on the graph.
We would say, 'as .................... increases, ................... increases/decreases'.
On this graph, as force increases, the length of the spring increases too.

Slide 13 - Open question
Describe the trend on this graph.
Slide 14 - Open question
Sometimes there is more than one trend. and we need to give more detail.
Trend 1: As temperature increases, enzyme activity increases.
Trend 2: At higher temperatures, enzyme activity rapidly decreases.
Slide 15 - Slide
Describe the trends in this graph.
Slide 16 - Open question
Describe the trends in this graph.
Slide 17 - Open question
Describe the trends in this graph.
Slide 18 - Open question
To perfect our answer we can use the data (numbers) on the graph to make accurate statements.
Here we would say:
As temperature increases, enzyme activity increases up to 70 C. After 70 C enzyme activity decreases rapidly.
