THE WATER CYCLE
FORM 1
Understanding How Water Moves Around Our Planet

Slide 1 - Slide

Objectives
 STUDENTS WILL LEARN
  1. what is the water cycle
  2. what are the steps for the water cycle
  3. why is the water cycle important

Slide 2 - Slide

What is the Water Cycle
The water cycle describes how water moves between Earth's surface and the atmosphere.

Water moves through processes like evaporation, condensation,  precipitation and collection.

Slide 3 - Slide

Stages of the Water Cycle
Evaporation:
Water from oceans, rivers, and lakes turns into water vapor and rises into the air.

Condensation:
Water vapor cools and forms clouds.

Slide 4 - Slide

Stages of the Water Cycle
Precipitation:
Water falls back to Earth as rain, snow, or hail.

Collection:
Water collects in rivers, lakes, and oceans, that's where the cycle begins again.

Slide 5 - Slide

Evaporation
The process where water changes from liquid to gas (water vapor) due to heat from the sun.

Evaporation happens from bodies of water, soil, and even plants (this process is called transpiration).

Slide 6 - Slide

Condensation
As water vapor rises and cools, it forms tiny droplets that make up clouds.

Condensation happens when warm, moist air meets cooler air.

Slide 7 - Slide

Precipitation
Precipitation occurs when the water droplets in clouds get too heavy to stay in the air and fall to Earth.

Types of precipitation: rain, snow, sleet, or hail.

Slide 8 - Slide

Collection
Once water falls as precipitation, it collects in rivers, lakes, oceans, or it can infiltrate into the ground.

Water in rivers eventually flows back to the ocean, where the cycle starts again.

Slide 11 - Slide

Why is the water cycle important
It maintains the Earth's water supply.

It supports plant and animal life.
It regulates weather patterns and helps prevent droughts.

Slide 12 - Slide

Fun fact about the water cycle
The Earth’s water supply is constantly recycled through the water cycle.

The water you drink might have been part of a raindrop millions of years ago!
Some of the water in the cycle has been on Earth for billions of years.
