What is an adjective? What does it do?

  • Before a noun 
He is a fussy eater = fussy tells us what kind of eater he is

  • Or after a linking verb (to be, to feel, to look, to seem) 
That film is fantastic.

Modify: verbs, adjectives, other adverbs or the whole sentence. 
(They can go in multiple places in a sentence)
 
The children walked quickly along the corridor.
The party was very loud.
I often go to the gym.
Stupidly, I forgot my keys.

Adverbs - spelling rules
Most adverbs are made by adding -ly to an adjective. 

Adjectives ending in '-ic' add '-ally' Fantastic = fantastically
Adjectives ending in '-y', remove '-y' and add '-ily' Easy = Easily
and enidng in '-le' remove the '-e' add '-y'  Simple = Simply 

However many do not end in -ly: fast, late, hard, always, often

Irregular  adverbs
There are also irregular adverbs. The adverb for good is  well - She's a good performer. She performs well. 

A few adverbs have the same form as the adjective.
Fast (snel), fair (sportief/eerlijk), low, high, hard, long, late, and straight (onmiddelijk) - He's a fast driver, He drives fast
