uses for Cornell notetaking system:

Step 1 

Students write notes

In the lesson, students complete 

the sections highlighted in red 

but they should leave 

the other 

sections blank. 

Not doing any more is 

actually 

a vital part of the process.

In order to learn you have to 

forget part of it first....

So, wait at least 24 hours

for step 2!

After a pause of 24 hours, 

students then complete the 

section highlighted in green. 

Of course, they have to 

thoroughly review

and 

think hard 

about the material in the 

notes section to do this:

 “Memory is the 

residue of 

thought.”

Step 2 Students complete

Then, wait a further 

48 hours for:
