The Problem
You will always be asked to speculate about something which relates to the focus of the photos and you will never be asked to merely describe the photos. Many students  find it particularly difficult to not get bogged down with photo description. As a result, they usually spend 40 seconds describing what they see instead of performing the actual task.

In order to help us break free from this "description habit", I have decided to start using prompts which don't contain any visuals.

can be used as a competitive element. Get class in to small teams and then give them 1 minute each to describe the task . 

Give points for the amount of speculative phrases used. 
Get in to pairs
  • One of you is student A and the other student B
  • Student B sets the timer on their phone to one minute. 
  • Student B needs a pen to tick off the number of times a "speculation" is made.
  • Student A needs to  choose TWO of the prompts and discuss the questions in the task for one minute using as many speculations as possible
