Who Is Sir Ranulph Fiennes?
Born in 1944
Sir Ranulph Fiennes is a famous explorer who has explored some of the coldest and hottest places in the world.
He travelled to places like the North Pole, South Pole, and deserts where the weather is very extreme.

How Do Explorers Prepare?
Explorers pack special clothes, food, and tools to stay safe and healthy during expeditions.
They have to think carefully about where they will be travelling, what challenges they will face and what they will need to overcome these.
Antarctic crossing 1992 -1993
What he achieved:
Fiennes, set a world record by completing the longest unsupported polar journey in history. "Unsupported" meant they had no air drops, no vehicle assistance, and had to rely entirely on their own physical power.

On a 90 day crossing of the Antarctic Continent

Man-haul sledges - sleds packed with all the food and equipment needed for the journey
Cross country skis and ski poles: to help them climb steep, icy areas
