We will discuss 2 dry landscapes this morning:

Desert & Steppe

What makes a desert a desert? (Take notes!)

Less than 200 mm of rainfall a year
Rain pours down in 1 or 2 heavy storms a year
Huge difference in temperature between day and night
Very few plants and animals
Very low population density
Found around 30 degrees latitude north and south

Characteristics of the steppe (Take notes!)

200-400 mm of rainfall a year
8-9 months of no rain at all a year
No trees, just grasses and shrubs
Low population density
Typically found on the edges of the desert: therefore often called semi-deserts

You're going to make board games!

Form groups of 2
Pick any landscape from chapter 2
Design a board game around this landscape:

- at least 20 questions
- pictures from the relevant landscape
- spelling and information needs to be correct
- drawn on A3 paper
- use your creativity!

Needs to be finished 22nd of January (start of lesson)

- Monopoly

- Trivial Pursuit

- Risk

Find some nice (high quality) pictures of your landscape on the internet/magazines, etc.
Bring them with you next lesson!
