Container cranes consist of a supporting framework that can traverse (overbruggen) the length of a quay or yard on a rail track. Instead of a hook, they are equipped with a specialized handling tool called a spreader. The spreader can be lowered on top of a container and locks onto the container's four locking points ("corner castings") using a twistlock mechanism. Cranes normally transport a single container at once, but some newer cranes have the capability to pick up two to four 20-foot containers at once.
2
A container is a sealed, rigid, reusable metal box used to hold goods that require transport by vessel, truck or rail. The container must be built for repeated use, easy to fill or empty and specially designated to facilitate the carriage of goods without intermediate reloading.
3
What is the difference between transport and logistics?
The transportation industry focuses on the actual movement of products via ground, ocean, and air conveyances (methods of transport). Logistics covers a much broader scope of activities that facilitate the management of product movement within the supply chain.
The activities undertaken in logistics include demand forecasting, export packaging, carton labelling, order management, inspection, transportation management, customs clearance, warehousing, and distribution activities to name a few. The activities that facilitate the transport of products internationally are a subset of the logistics industry.
The logistics industry concentrates on planning activities that manage product movement, as well as the necessary data and documentation for cost efficient cross border commerce.
4
Port trucking is a form of drayage driving. Essentially, this means that a port truck driver is responsible for moving containers or freight short distances, usually from a port. Obviously, as a port driver, you’ll be transporting goods from the port to a local destination. This is the beginning of a much longer logistics process.
Have you ever wondered how a shipping container gets from the port to a train or vice versa? Drayage drivers are the ones responsible for these short journeys. The only way a container can get from one port to its next location in the supply chain is through drayage services.
5
The movement of automobiles and pedestrians is forbidden at the container terminal working area. Parking automobiles, which have a permit to enter the container terminal, is allowed only on a parking lot in the vicinity of the entrance (see picture 1). If there is an exceptional need to move your automobile at the terminal, this must be authorized exclusively by a written permit issued by the HSSE department.

Aan het eind van de dag schrijf je een rapport in het ENGELS van de werkzaamheden die je hebt gedaan. Kijk op het internet hoe je een verslag in rapportstijl schrijft.
