The Domesday Book
  • After the Norman Invasion, King William wanted a better idea of the land he controlled.

  • He issued a survey to check on the population, land use and wealth. 

  • All the data was put together in the Domesday Book, a medieval example of a census.

The Black Death 
  • During the Middle Ages life expectancy was short and there was a high child mortality


  • bubonic plague kwown as the Black Death killed half of the European population.  
  • The disease was brought by rats from Central Asia via the Silk Road.

  • The symptops inculded fever, headaches and the growth of large buboes. 

Life Expectancy
Life expectancy is a statistical measure of the average (see below) time an organism is expected to live, based on the year of its birth, its current age and other demographic factors including gender. 
Child mortality
Child mortality, refers to how many detahs of children under the age of five per 1000 people. 
Bubonic plague
Bubonic plague is one of three types of plague caused by bacterium Yersinia pestis, which is mainly spread by infected fleas from small animals.
