What are hormones?

Adjusting blood sugar

• Blood contains glucose > Blood sugar level
• The amount of glucose is regulated by 2 hormones.
• Too much glucose > Insulin > blood sugar level lowers
• Too little glucose > Glucagon > blood sugar increases
• Feedback > result of a proces, adjusts the proces
• Both hormones are made by islets of Langerhans

Mnemonic

GGG= Glucagon gives glucose 

II= Insulin impairs

Bill just ate a lot of candy.
Somewhat later all this candy ends up in his blood

What hormone will be produced because of this?

Adrenalin

• Made in adrenal glands (on top of kidneys)
• When you're angry/scared/startled/in danger
• Effects of adrenalin

1. More glucose in blood (energy)
2. Heart beats faster
3. Breathing quicker

• Only fast and short working hormone
