Cases of use:
1. To talk about something that happened in the past, especially with time words yesterday, three days ago, last Sunday, in 2003, etc.:

They got married 14 years ago.
Last month my neihbours bought a new fridge.
My granny met her husband in 1999.
We danced and partied a lot in your youth.

2. To tell a story where events happen one after another:
I came home, took off my shoes, washed my hands and went to the kitchen to cook my dinner.

The Little Red Riding Hood wanted to bring the basket to her grandma but on the way there she met a wolf. He was very cunning and planned to eat the girl.

Formation:

- He didn't work yesterday.
?1 Did he work yesterday?/Didn't he work yesterday?
?2 Where did he work yesterday?/Where didn't he work yesterday?
?3 He worked yesterday, didn't he?/He didn't work yesterday, did he?

English verbs (werkwoorden) can be regular and irregular.
# In case of a regular verb you need to add -d or -ed:
work - worked
like - liked
# In case of an irregular verb you need to learn the Past Simple form of a verb by heart.
eat - ate, swim - swam, buy - bought, etc.
