What do you already know about Jewish objects found in homes?

LO: To recognise objects that can be found in a Jewish home.

At the end of the lesson you will be able to recognize and describe sacred Jewish objects found in Jewish homes.

Slide 1: Mezuzah

Mezuzah is a small parchment inscribed with specified Hebrew verses from the Torah. It is affixed to the doorpost of Jewish homes.


Slide 2: Menorah

A menorah is a nine-branched candelabrum used on the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah. It holds the candles that are lit each night of the holiday.

Slide 3: Challah Bread

Challah bread is a special braided bread eaten by Jewish people on Shabbat and holidays. It symbolizes the manna that fell from the sky.

Slide 4: Tallit

Tallit is a prayer shawl worn by Jewish people during morning prayers and on certain Jewish holidays. It has fringes at the four corners.

Slide 5: Shofar

A shofar is a ram's horn that is traditionally blown as a musical instrument during Jewish High Holy Days, especially Rosh Hashanah.

Slide 6: Seder Plate

A seder plate is a special plate containing symbolic foods eaten or displayed during the Passover Seder. Each food represents an aspect of the story of the Exodus.
