An adjective tells you something about a noun.

An adverb tells you something about:

• verb
• another adverb

• adjective  --> The incredibly supportive host helped the singer off the stage.

adjective + ly = adverb

EXCEPTIONS

consonant + y  --> -ily      funny --> funnily

-le --> -ly                                 gentle --> gently

- ic --> -ically                         automatic --> automatically

- ue --> -uly                             true --> truly

- ll --> lly                                    full --> fully

Irregular adverbs

good --> well

fast --> fast

hard --> hard (=hard)

-        --> hardly (= nauwelijks)

daily --> daily

Pay attention to...

Verbs like taste, smell, look, sound and feel are called sense verbs.

We use the verb TO BE and sense verbs with adjectives.

I am late.

I feel good.

You look tired.
