What is a radio play?
  • It is a dramatized, accoustic performance. 
There are no visuals. In Dutch: hoorspel.

What do you think the difference is between radio plays and stage plays when it comes to acting?

Radio plays...
  • Actors portray their characters by using their voice instead of facial expressions/physical language.
  • Foley artists: man/woman who adds sound effects to radio plays (and movies!) by using all kinds of props.

  • 1938: War of the Worlds by Orson Welles
  • Performed and broadcasted live. 
  • Caused nationwide panic because listeners believed earth was being attacked by aliens. 
  • People fled their homes. 
  • It showed radio's power
    (and fake news!)

Today's assignment!
  •  Teacher makes groups of 4 and gives you a theme 
    (by spinning the wheel!).
  •  Create a 'sound bath' for this theme, meaning you are going to find as many props as possible to make sounds with, fitting your theme.  
  • You can use: prop's, body sounds (clapping hands) and voice (not words!). You can't use music and/or already excisting sound effects today!

  • 10 minutes to prepare - perform!
