Parts of speech are categories that describe the role words play in sentences. There are eight main parts: nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections.

Nouns and Pronouns

Nouns name people, places, or things. Pronouns replace nouns to avoid repetition. Examples: Noun - 'dog', Pronoun - 'it'.

Verbs and Adjectives

Verbs express actions or states. Adjectives describe nouns. Examples: Verb - 'run', Adjective - 'happy'.

Adverbs and Prepositions

Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. Prepositions show relationships in time and space. Examples: Adverb - 'quickly', Preposition - 'on'.

Conjunctions and Interjections

Conjunctions connect words or groups. Interjections express emotions. Examples: Conjunction - 'and', Interjection - 'Wow!'.
